Interesting hand made brooch. It is an very old mahjong game tile that has been. Finely carved with a figure & flowing vase. Ustom set into a silver toned pin frame. Annetille or wire work decoration all around – front and back. The tile itself may be much older – I don’t have any way to know for sure. Size : Aprox 43 mm x 27 mm x 3/8 tall or thick (not including pin back) – 13.8 grams on my scale. Marks : None that I saw. CONDITION : Good condition for the age – I didn’t find any damage or quirks to mention. As found – I have not cleaned this at all. The beautiful impeccable carved and pierced jade is a figural representation of two children in a garden full with foliage. The jade is masterfully carved on two levels, like on two steps, creating an almost 3D presentation. The carving, which is antique, dates back to the late 19th Century and it was set in the filigree silver frame later, probably in the 1920’s when the Chinese Export jewelry making was flourishing, even thriving.
