19th CENTURY ANTIQUE PAIR OF BLANC DE CHINE. BUFFALO FIGURINES ON HAND CARVED WOOD STANDS. The figurines are a matched pair of male and female water buffalo. Each figurine has a hand carved wood stand that is unique to the male or female buffalo. Figurine measurements: 7 1/2″ length x 4 1/4″ high. The buffalo and wood stands are marked on the bottom “CHINA” in accordance with the U. 1891 McKinely Tariff Act. There are the remnants of old paper import labels on the bottom of three pieces. These figurines are estate pieces and in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks or restorations to the porcelain. One of the hand carved wood stands has an old repair. ITEM DESCRIPTION: fine rectangular form, the frame crested with two confronting kui dragons, their bodies writhing in angular scrolls with their tails extending down to form the border, one side carved in shallow relief of a boy sitting on the back of a water buffalo. The reverse inscribed with a poem. The stone in pale creamy white color. CONDITION: good condition with no damage of any kind. Only normal wear and tear. SIZE: 61mm by 41mm.
