Chinese Antique Carved White Nephrite Mutton Fat Jade. Buddha with Deer Sculpture (estimated 1900–1910, though it could be older). 13″ tall x 9.75″ across x 6 deep. It appears the sculpture was at one time coated in protective wax (a method sometimes used with Jade), as there is some still in many of the crevices. The wax is a magnet for dirt though, as some of the photos will show. Included is a recessed wooden stand. Amazing detailing of the face, hands, ribs and cords of the neck. White Jade also known as mutton fat jade when it is a translucent (see back-lit photo #10 for opacity) white to light yellow, is a calming, grounding Nephrite jade that is said to protect from negative energies, bringing peace, harmony and luck.
